Fonthill Trustee Tackles 100km Mountain Trek in aid of Link to Hope
We wish Steve the very best of luck as he takes on a 100km mountain trek in the Balkans in aid of one of our partner charities, Link to Hope.
In celebration of 31 years of rebuilding lives and communities in Eastern Europe, Link to Hope, are organising a Trek across the Balkan mountain ranges where Albania, Montenegro and Kosovo meet. This tough 7-day trek involves staying in mountain huts and some serious hill and mountain walking - so it certainly isn't a holiday!
With the cost of the trip covered by participants themselves, all of the money raised by Steve and the rest of the team, will go to helping Link to Hope support many thousands of people in some of the poorest communities across Eastern Europe. Their education and social care projects include The Inn of Love for impoverished older people, the Emmaus Club for children with special needs and their Link to Hope kindergarten for children in one of the local shanty towns.
In addition to these, and many more of Link to Hopes projects, the money raised from the trek will go towards the 'I AM' project. For a variety of reasons many people in Eastern Europe don't have identity papers. This means children cannot access education, older people don't qualify for a pension, and families in poverty can't get any financial help for basic necessities. The 'I AM' project aims to help as many people as possible to obtain birth certificates and identity papers in order to change their lives. To become a person who is recognised in their society rather than someone who is invisible.
We wish Steve and all the team the very best of luck as they embark on this challenge. If you would like to support Steve's fundraising efforts please visit his Just Giving page https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/stephen-wilkins8
